Amber's Home Tour: Living Room

May 1, 2018

It's round three of my home tour series! Up next is our living room. I'm super excited to share this little space with you, mostly because this is where we spend a majority of our time and because it's the one room with the most significant change since we moved in (two years ago) while still being a work in progress.

If you've been following along, you may remember me saying that we bought a new construction house with a lot of builder grade finishes. There was no real character. It's been a journey making small improvements to increase the charm, while compromising on mine and my hubby's style.

We have slowly added paint, finishes and light fixtures to the main floor. Our first big change was a focal wall with a pop of color. I've always been afraid of dark bold colors until I stumbled across this photo on Pinterest.  I instantly fell head over heels for the look. This little goodie is from @brentwoodbungalow

We went with Salamander by Benjamin Moore for the focal wall. On a side note...have you ever painted with a spouse? If you're ever looking for a free therapy session, I encourage it with caution. You'll laugh, you'll cry and you might throw a paint brush or two lol. Oh the joys of home improvements!

Our next big project was the shelving. This little vignette is always the topic of conversation when we have people over. We sourced raw Ambrosia Maple from WoodCraft in Grand Rapids (If you haven't been there, RUN! I'm a junky for the yummy saw dust/workshop smell). We had it cut to size leaving the edge raw. The hubby oiled and sealed it and we found hardware for the install. A super custom look for under $400. I keep the bottom shelf pretty much the same on a consistent basis, but change the top shelf seasonally. Click here to see how I styled it during the Winter

All the natural vibes and great pieces of artwork collected and created by family makes for warm finishes.

Our space overall is pretty neutral, so a big bold print for the area rug seemed like the perfect fit. This room gets sunlight all day, so we went with an Edison fixture that gives off warm mood light in the evening. Our latest addition were the curtains, just sheer panels to provide drama to the space but also diffuse the light when closed.

Bailey and I spend our Sunday's on this couch, cup of coffee in one hand and another giving Bailey all the pets while watching Meet the Press (I know, soooo nerdy). This space is cozy with lots of personal details and serves our little fam well. This space truly makes me happy and design that makes you happy should always win!

Thanks for stopping by!  What space in your home do you covet the most?

XOXO

Amber
